Who is always that strange boy sitting quietly inside the corner of your bus brimming with screaming fans going on the football match? In fact, this shy boy is often a girl in disguise. She isn't alone; women also love football in Iran. Before the game begins, jane is arrested at the checkpoint and set into a holding pen by the stadium having a band of other women all dressed as men. They will be handed over for the vice squad as soon as the match. To start with this, they will be tortured -- they must endure every cheer, every shout of your game they cannot see. Worse yet, they must listen to the play-by-play account of a soldier you never know nothing about football. Yet, these young girls just won’t give up. They use every trick inside book to begin to view the match.
Jafar Panahi’s films tend to be referred to as Iranian neo-realism. Although all of his films, including Offside, have been banned by Iran, he continues to make movies which explore the very human side with the conflicts as part of his native country.
