Eggimann on the move after EURO

Switzerland central defender Mario Eggimann is hoping to enjoy a summer to remember after it was announced that he will be leaving Karlsruher SC for Hannover 96 in a €1m deal at the end of the season.

'Really improved
The 27-year-old moved to Germany from Swiss club FC Aarau in 2002 and has been a key figure in sixth-placed KSC's ascent up the Bundesliga this term, scoring four goals in 22 starts. His club coach Edmund Becker said recently: "Mario has made real strides this season. He has really improved in building moves, avoiding unnecessary fouls and his defensive headers." Eggimann, whose will join Hannover once his Karlsruher contract expires on 30 June, made his Switzerland debut in a 2-1 victory against Chile in September and has since added three caps to his collection, raising hopes that he will be selected for UEFA EURO 2008™on home soil. The co-hosts are next in friendly action on 26 March, when they meet fellow finalists Germany in Basel.
